Description of Project:
The wider objective is to enhance the process of approximation of legislation and strengthen political and economic ties with the European Union by providing a greater understanding of European Law and policy-making to Ukrainian legal professionals and senior civil servants directly confronted with the implications of EU approximation. In detail, the project will have the following final target groups:
(a) Professional lawyers working in public service as well as to be employed in the civil service and
(b) Ukrainian private lawyers, working in legal firms, sometimes linked with international law firms, as well as Ukrainian lawyers working in private enterprises and associations where knowledge of EU law is essential.
Project activities have concentrated on the following main areas of development:
Support for training infrastructure within the partner institutions, by providing teaching equipment, literature and teaching materials for enriching the libraries of the four partner institutions and networking the national and regional training institutions between themselves as well as with similar institutions of the EU.
Design and delivery of modular courses for the training of partner institutions staff including (i) training sessions for 50 members of the teaching staff in selected subjects of EU Law such as Criminal Law and Procedures, Judicial Redress Procedures, Human Rights, (ii) courses addressed to 10 members of the management staff of the partner institutions in the management of fee generating activities and grants, (iii) study visits abroad.
Design and delivery of modular courses for the training of 200 civil servants and private sector legal professionals in general and specific selected subject matters on EU law in the light of EU law approximation.
Development of at least 25 course manuals on subject matters related to priority areas of EU law.
Development of a Distance Learning System on EU Law subjects and elaboration of a Business Plan for its future sustainability
Development of a glossary of English/Russian/Ukrainian legal terminology.
Services Provided: technical support for Law Approximation; enhancement of teaching capacity and curriculum development; manual & course development; targeted legal training for legal professionals and University professors on EU law; distance Learning System.
